Time is running out to sign up for our last BOOTCAMP cohort of 2023. Find out more and apply

So, you've applied to BOOTCAMP. What happens next?

Well hold on, firstly: welcome to Command Shift, we’re so excited for you to join us.

After applying, the next step is… the call. But, our call is not an interview. Case and point! We know that any way we phrase it: “entry call”, “get to know you”, “informal chat”, it’s still going to sound like an interview. So, we thought we’d break it down and tell you exactly what happens and what’s asked, to give you a better idea of how it works. Because it really is no biggy.

So, here it is…

Hi, we’re Command Shift

So, to start off, we thought we’d give you a little background into who we are, and what the purpose of the call is.

Your caller will be a super friendly member of the Command Shift team. They’ll give you a run through of what you’ll cover in the call (similar to this one), and answer any of your questions. From the curriculum to student support, they’ll make sure you’ve got all the information you need in order to decide whether BOOTCAMP is the right fit for you.

Ok, let’s talk about you.

Now you know a bit about us and why we’re calling, we want to hear a bit more about you. Who are you? What’s led you to apply?

We’ll also want to hear about your motivation. Maybe you want to future-proof your career, or learn a new skill. We’ll talk through what you’ll gain from BOOTCAMP, and how it’ll help achieve your goals. Or, if you’re unsure if this is the best option for you, we can help you figure it out, or decide if a different route is better suited.

We’ll also talk about experience. Now, it’s completely ok if you have no experience in anything tech or coding related. The course is challenging, but it’s made with beginners in mind. Regardless of experience, there’s nothing stopping you from becoming a Junior Developer in as little as 6 months.

Of course if you’ve dabbled in the world of code before, that’s also great! We want to hear about it: what have you learnt; how did you find it; which parts did you enjoy and struggle with?

Shall we move on to the course?

We assume that if you’ve applied to BOOTCAMP then you’ve probably had a look at what we cover on the course and like what you see; so in this part of the call, we’ll just break that down even further. We’ll give you a brief overview of the course and what you can expect to learn with us. We’ll talk about the logistics of it - how classes work; when the classes are; the timeline of the course; and answer any questions you may have about the course itself.

Is there anything you’d like more information about?

This could be about anything - careers, curriculum, student support, whatever you want! We’re here to help in any way we can, so this is your chance to get all your questions answered. Take the lead and fire away.

Getting everything ready

Now you’ve got all your information, we’ll whip out the checklist, just to make sure you’ve got everything you need to get started. This will be things like: Laptops or Computers Do you have a laptop/computer? Will it work with the programmes we use? Do you need to borrow a laptop from us? Intro Have you completed our free Intro course? Do you have enough time to complete our Intro course?

We ask that anyone joining BOOTCAMP has completed our free Intro course. Intro gives you the foundations that we’ll build upon in BOOTCAMP. It’s 25 hours worth of self-paced learning, and will give you a taste of what BOOTCAMP is like, and whether coding is right for you.

And lift off

We’ll send you an email following the call which will walk you through the enrolment process. It’s just a standard enrolment process - forms, finance, logistics - but it’s all online, no frustrating and long paperwork. Once that’s done, you can sit back and meet your cohort!

Or, if you’re not quite ready yet, that’s absolutely fine, no pressure. Now you know everything about the course and Command Shift, you can take your time to mull it over and work out if it’s the right fit for you. We’ll keep in contact, just to update you about anything going on, or to find out how it’s going. But the choice is completely yours. We hope to welcome you when you’re ready.

Not so scary really, is it?

And there you have it. That’s the call. We hope that’s made you feel a little bit better about the call, and just given you some more clarity about what it’s like. So, if you’ve already applied to BOOTCAMP, make sure to book that call so we can get you started on the course. There’s a link in the email confirmation we sent you. Or, if you can’t find the email, you can email us at [email protected]) to arrange a time best for you.

Or if you’re still unsure about BOOTCAMP, the call, or have some questions, feel free to schedule a call with us, or email [email protected] and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

We look forward to speaking with you soon
