Tell us a little bit about you/your background e.g. previous coding experience, job situation before the course, motivations for taking on a coding course etc

Before the course I was working in marketing in the grocery industry, I was unhappy in my career and wanted a change. I didn’t have any coding experience but I played around with some free online resources before deciding to join the course.

What are your plans following the course/what have you achieved already?

I am 4 months into a Junior Front Developer role and really enjoying it! I got the job offer on the day of our cohort’s graduation.

Why did you choose Manchester Codes over other courses?

I needed a course that would fit around my job, Manchester Code’s evening classes suited me perfectly.

What did you enjoy most about Manchester Codes?

I really enjoyed learning alongside other coding newbies! We would often meet up together at the weekends to work together and I found this really helpful and fun.

What did you find most challenging?

Learning something completely new! There were times, especially at the start of the course, when I felt like I just couldn’t get my head around things. After perseverance I got there.

How did you find balancing the course with your other commitments?

It wasn’t easy, there were times where I had to miss on events with friends, especially on the weekends as this was the time I would use for self study. But the hard work was worth it!

Anything else you'd like to add about your experience on the course?

All the tutors running the classes are really helpful, knowledgeable and approachable if you are stuck on something.

If someone was on the fence about doing the course, what would you tell them?

Go for it! Taking part in Manchester Codes has helped me into a new career and I’ve made new friends along the way :)

What advice would you give to others who are doing the course now?

Put the time in! 20 hours is the recommended time per week and although I didn’t achieve that every week, the weeks where I did I felt it was noticeable and I understood things much better.
