When did you decide to change careers?
I undertook the BOOTCAMP 6-month part time online course starting in September 2020.
Why did you decide to study with us?
I am so happy that I decided to take this course, as it enabled me to transition from a career in law to a career in tech as an Application Developer in a short space of time. I personally decided to invest in a structured learning track as I knew I did not have the time/self-discipline to teach myself how to code, and I’m so glad that I did.
Let’s be real, was it difficult?
Don’t get me wrong, you have to invest a lot of your own personal time outside of the set ‘classroom’ hours to self-study, but this is standard if you actually want to become a job ready full-stack developer in only 6 months. However, Command Shift provides support via Slack outside of ‘classroom’ hours which is great for getting answers quickly when you are self-studying.
What do you cover and how has that helped you now?
This course covers all the essentials needed to learn full-stack development in JavaScript. The Command Shift course has also made it very easy for me to pick up other languages (i.e. in my developer role I now use Java).
How else did we help you?
Command Shift also provides other opportunities that helped me to land a job as a developer. For example, invaluable career support (CV reviews, job seekers support and advice from those already working in the industry, networking opportunities and events).
Another key beneficial part of the Command Shift course which is often overlooked by those learning to code, is the opportunity to work closely with other students and to collaborate on work throughout the course. Pair programming/working closely with others collaboratively is a key skill to master that will make working as a developer much easier.
